Abstract: Examples of conveying general scientific terminology from Russian into English are considered in the article. Bigger part of the collected material, when translated directly, is not understood by native speakers. This testifies to the fact that a lot of research issues of contemporary terminology, theory of translation as well as practice of foreign language teaching still remain unsolved.
