Abstract: The article is devoted to the consideration of the Ukrainian terms of vidbyvanka (volleyball) – a movement game new for Ukrainians in the 20s of the XX century, known in the world as volleyball. The volleyball terms recorded on the pages of one of the first Ukrainian volleyball textbooks – «Vidbyvanka» by Stepan Haiduchok (Lviv, 1930) are analyzed.

The purpose of the article is to describe the system of Ukrainian special names used to designate the main concepts of volleyball and to trace the trends of national terminology developed in the interwar period in Galicia.

The article, which is a continuation of the research started on the initial stage of the formation of Ukrainian volleyball terminology in the period between the two world wars, analyzes the two largest thematic groups of volleyball terms – the names of moments of the game and the main actions in volleyball. Using examples from these groups of volleyball terms, it is shown that Ukrainian analytical nominations of two or more components dominated among the names of special concepts of volleyball. A small percentage of volleyball terms were foreign loanwords. The analysis of the source material showed that the Ukrainian volleyball terms of the interwar period had a distinctly national basis, so they can successfully compete with modern volleyball names of foreign origin.
