Title: Nominations of the Sphere of Monetary Relations in Ukrainian Terminology

https://doi.org/10.37919/2221-8807-2025-8-32

Rubric: Terminology of Humanities and Economic Sciences

Abstract: The study of the verbal reflection of the socio-cultural phenomenon of monetary relations in the nominative field of economic terminology of the Ukrainian language demonstrated the terminosphere, which is formed by figurative rethinkings as one of the most characteristic ways of the emergence and functioning of a term. A wide range of trope-based means of creating terms for monetary relations is noted – from metaphor, metonymy and personification as key and ancient rethinkings of the monetary sphere to allegory, figurative forms of epithet, litotes, hyperbole and partly irony. In syncretism, these tropes can form fields of conceptual metaphors, demonstrate a positive or negative assessment that is infrequent for the term, participate in terminological phraseology, contribute to the development of ambiguity, which is rooted in the multifunctional properties of objects of monetary semantics, and reveal the regularities of the functioning of the term as a linguistic unit of a symbolic nature. We make a conclusion about the antiquity of the names of monetary relations in the national-linguistic picture of the world of Ukrainians.

Keywords: nominations of the sphere of monetary relations, economic terminology, figurative rethinking, national-linguistic picture of the world.
