Rubric: TERMINOLOGY OF LINGUISTICS. THEORY OF TERMINOGRAPHY AND PRACTICE OF BRANCH DICTIONARIES

Abstract: In the present scholarly study, 21 units of the ideographic terminological group “Translation Studies as a Science and Its Components” have been singled out, representing the core domain of the terminology system of translation studies. This study examines the challenge of defining selected terms based on an analysis of contemporary authoritative dictionaries, encyclopaedias of linguistic terms, and glossaries appended to educational materials. The analysed terms are predominantly two-word and multi-word expressions, most of these terms are monosemous and primarily form hypernym-hyponym relationships, while synonymic relations occur less frequently. Authors’ definitions of the units within the examined terminological system have been proposed in both Ukrainian and English. These definitions are expected to be incorporated into a bilingual explanatory and translation dictionary of translation studies terminology, thereby contributing to the expansion of bilingual terminographic practice.
