AbstractThe article substantiates the need to create an “English-Ukrainian short dictionary of tank terms”, considers the sequence of its compilation based on the material of glossaries of terms for Ukrainian, German and American tanks, as well as Ukrainian and English military literature on this topic. In addition, examples of compiling general and special military dictionaries, glossaries in Ukraine by teachers of military and civilian higher education institutions are described; possible options for preparatory work for compiling translation dictionary of tank terms, the process of selecting materials to identify the necessary terms are proposed.
This publication draws attention to the role of cooperation with experts among well-known specialists in this field of knowledge for consultations in the process of creating dictionaries, and also analyzes the main ways of searching for specific Ukrainian-language equivalents of English terms.
