Abstract: The article provides an etymological, lexical-semantic and functional description of terms for solid drugs, which in different periods of the development of the Ukrainian language showed signs of active or passive vocabulary. The interpretation of the terms tablet and pill in general-language dictionaries and in specialized lexicographic publications of different periods is analyzed. Their use in modern official documents and textbooks for pharmacists is demonstrated.
