Rubric: Term in the Text

Abstract: This article examines the dynamics of functional shifts in terminological units resulting from their usage within the journalistic style of literary language. The study uses the General Regionally Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language (GRAC). A specialized subcorpus, “me-dia_all_13-23_M,” was compiled within the GRAC v.17a platform, incorporating articles by au-thors such as R. Malko, D. Kazanskyi, S. Kozliuk, D. Krapyvenko, O. Kramar, B. Butkevych, A. Holub, M. Vikhrov, Yu. Lapaiev, T. Liutyi, among others. A corpus of quotations containing the term resonance was assembled using a lemma-based search. Through semantic-stylistic analysis, the collected material was categorized according to levels of determinacy.
The study investigates the semantic and stylistic transformations that occur when specialized terminology is employed in a journalistic context. Based on this analysis, the paper outlines the functional capacities of determinologized lexemes within journalistic discourse, using the term resonance as a representative example. The findings indicate that the integration of technical terminology into journalistic texts serves several communicative purposes:
1. Semantic clarity and precision – terminological units, through semantic transformation, facilitate the structuring and concretization of abstract concepts.
2. Expressiveness and stylistic enhancement – the incorporation of specialized vocabulary, particularly within tropes and rhetorical figures, contributes to the embellishment of discourse, articulates the author’s stance toward the subject matter, and enriches the overall expressive potential of the text.

Keywords: term, terminology, determinologization, lexicon, lexeme, semantics, epithet, metaphor.
