Title: ON THE NORMALIZATION ISSUE OF LINGUISTIC TERMINOLOGY

Rubric: TERMINOLOGY OF LINGUISTICS. THEORY OF TERMINOGRAPHY AND PRACTICE OF BRANCH DICTIONARIES

Abstract: The article deals with the problems of linguistic terminology. The problem of definitions of both general scientific and linguistic terms is a subject of scientific interest among researchers. However, the creation of a normalised technology for synthesizing unambiguous definitions of terms remains without due attention in scientific works.
The main requirements for the definition of the term were synthesized in the article. The determination of main theoretical and practical approaches to forming the definition of a term as an element of scientific knowledge was proposed. A technology of analytical description of a term based on the explanatory formula of the term content (EFTC) is developed and proposed to identify elements of the characteristic structure for the synthesis of an unambiguous definition of terms. A scientific analysis of the term based on the proposed structure of the EFTC can provide an opportunity to clarify and show the essence of the term in detail. EFTC can serve the issue of further development and normalization of the definitions of terms.

Keywords: term, definition, explanatory formula of the term content (EFTC), characteristic structure.
