Title: SEMANTICISATION OF PHONETIC TERMS
Rubric: TERMINOLOGY OF LINGUISTICS. THEORY OF TERMINOGRAPHY AND PRACTICE OF BRANCH DICTIONARIES
Abstract: The article provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution of phonetic terminology for vowels and consonants. It offers an in-depth examination of the typology of variant terms, delving into the nuances of their semantic interpretation.
Research has demonstrated that a salient characteristic of the genesis of fundamental phonetic terms is the active development of linguistic nominations associated with the patriotism of Ukrainian linguists. In their quest to formulate novel terms and employ pre-existing ones, these scholars sought to convey the concepts defined by their native language with optimal precision, while eschewing the rejection of international terms.
Keywords: linguistic term, phonetic terminology, consonant sounds, vowel sounds, diphthongs, variation, duplicity, semantisation.
