Title: THE TERM KRAPKA (FULL STOP / PERIOD) AS THE CORE OF THE FORMATION OF THE UKRAINIAN PUNCTUATION TERMIINOLOGY SYSTEM

Rubric: TERMINOLOGY OF LINGUISTICS. THEORY OF TERMINOGRAPHY AND PRACTICE OF BRANCH DICTIONARIES

Language: Ukrainian

AbstractThe problematic scope of the evolutionary context of the term krapka (full stop / period), has been conceptualized. The morphology of the history of the term krapka has been outlined as a trajectory from the adoption of borrowings to the formation of distinctly national terms, passing through a stage of dichotomous representation of terminological variants. The logic of its history has been defined as the overcoming of dichotomously formed “zones of tension,” which elevated the term krapka within the paradigm of its diachronic variants. The meaning of the history of the term krapka has been actualized as the formation of Ukrainian terminology oriented toward its own intrinsic, native resources. The morphology, logic, and meaning of the history of the term krapka have been elucidated in relation to the formation of the terms dvokrapka (colon) and krapky (dots). A diachronic-paradigmatic background has been developed to represent the terms dvokrapka and krapky. The phenomenon of the emanation of the term krapka into the domain of the terms dvokrapka and krapky has been traced as an expression of the mechanism underlying the generation of the Ukrainian punctuation term system.

Keywords: term, krapka (full stop / period), dvokrapka (colon), krapky (dots), diachronic variant, emanation.
